OUR OCEAN CONFERENCE

This is not just a conference. It is where ambition becomes action.

Since 2014, the Our Ocean Conference has generated over $160 billion in commitments to protect the ocean. In 2026, for the first time in its history, it comes to Africa, Mombasa, Kenya, at the heart of the Western Indian Ocean. This is a defining moment: Africa's priorities, solutions, and voices shaping global ocean commitments.

ONE NETWORK. One ocean. One campaign.

WIO-C, EAWLS, and Oceans 5 are a unified civil society platform with one shared goal, ensuring that Western Indian Ocean voices shape the global ocean commitments made at OOC 2026. Different roles, one direction.

Consortium for the Conservation of Coastal and Marine Ecosystems in the Western Indian Ocean

WIO-C brings together regional and international NGOs across ten countries, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Madagascar, South Africa, Comoros, Seychelles, Mauritius, Réunion, and Somalia, providing the coordination and strategic alignment that civil society ocean conservation across the Western Indian Ocean depends on.

Founded in 1956, the East African Wild Life Society is the voice of conservation in East Africa. For this campaign, EAWLS leads civil society engagement, communications, and advocacy ahead of OOC 2026. As President of WIO-C, EAWLS ensures tight alignment between regional leadership and campaign delivery.

Oceans 5 is a collaborative of results-oriented philanthropists united by a commitment to measurable ocean impact. Backing this campaign in partnership with EAWLS and WIO-C, they are amplifying civil society voices to influence ocean commitments at OOC 2026. A sponsored project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.

Statements for the OOC11

From organisations to conservation partners, voices across the WIO-C region and beyond are sharing statements of support, commitment and action ahead of OOC11. Each statement reflects a shared call to protect our ocean, strengthen partnerships and drive meaningful change.

"Ahead of the 11th Our Ocean Conference in Mombasa, the East African Wild Life Society (EAWLS) is leading the Our Ocean, Our Voice campaign to bring African coastal communities to the heart of global ocean governance. Through regional consultations, EAWLS is consolidating community voices into a Civil Society Ocean Manifesto, addressing urgent concerns around overfishing, IUU fishing, marine pollution, and climate change. Communities are calling for an inclusive blue economy, stronger co-management systems, and greater investment in nature-based solutions. EAWLS believes the true measure of OOC11's success will be whether its commitments translate into tangible, community-driven action. "

Nancy Ogonje

Executive Director, EAWLS,

"The 11th Our Ocean Conference 2026, hosted in Mombasa and Kilifi County, marks the first OOC on African soil — a pivotal moment for the Western Indian Ocean (WIO). As one of the world's most ecologically and economically vital ocean regions, the WIO faces growing threats from climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. WIOMSA sees OOC 2026 as an opportunity to elevate regional priorities, mobilise investment in the blue economy, and translate global commitments into concrete, locally-led action. "
