What is Our Ocean, Our Voice?
Our Ocean, Our Voice is a campaign that documents and amplifies the stories of communities living and working along the Western Indian Ocean coastline. It was created to bring regional voices to the global stage — particularly around the Our Ocean Conference in Mombasa 2026.
Who is behind this campaign?
Three organisations: the East African Wild life Society (EAWLS), who lead the storytelling and produce this platform; WIO-C, the regional body coordinating ocean conservation across ten member states; and Oceans 5, the philanthropic collaborative funding the work. Each brings a different strength, storytelling, regional authority, and resources
What is the Our Ocean Conference ?
The Our Ocean Conference is the world's leading ocean conservation summit, held annually since 2014. It has generated over $169 billion in formal commitments to ocean protection. In 2026, it comes to Africa for the first time — hosted in Mombasa, Kenya — making it a landmark moment for the Western Indian Ocean region.
Why the Our Ocean Conference Matters?
The Our Ocean Conference is a global platform that brings together governments, civil society, business leaders, conservation experts, scientists, development partners and financiers to drive action on ocean protection and sustainable ocean use.Its value lies in moving ocean conversations from speeches to commitments. Participating countries and institutions are expected to announce pledges, investments, policies and partnerships in areas such as marine biodiversity, sustainable fisheries, climate resilience, maritime security, marine pollution, ocean governance and blue economy development.
